Horizon
A place that exists everywhere yet is not a place—a destination one can see but never touch, a mesmerizing landscape as simple as a line dividing earth from sky. It is a realm where colors are never the same, a location in perpetual change without ever truly changing. Compelled by this enigmatic horizon, Tomás Delft delves into its colors and landscapes, capturing the pure essence of the boundary between atmosphere and matter.
One of Delft’s journeys around the world stirred a deep “saudade” for this magical place, and upon his return to Lisbon, Portugal, he felt an irresistible urge to paint what he had seen. It was not just its beauty that drew him in, but the simplicity that echoes through the psychology of colors and human emotions. Here, at this elusive junction, the connection between our lives and the life of nature may begin—a space that inspires our minds to contemplate new possibilities.
Hours could pass simply gazing, capturing, and reimagining it. This pursuit is the driving force behind Delft’s series of the Horizon paintings, each one representing a new world, celebrating the passage of time and the significance of every memory that nature bestows upon us daily.
Honoring the worlds we create within our own minds, driven by our lived experiences, each painting invokes day and night as reflections of the light and shadow within each of these worlds.
